Went fishing on G P yesterday and being a die hard as I am went looking for some perch. as usual no luck and plenty of gobies still stealing the bait. was a fantastic day for the sea gulls near me they ate good on the gobies. Decided to try to snag for a while but after an hour of that arm got tired so went to the start of the pier where the pumps were running and caught a few baby trout or salmon and threw them back in. BUT the funny thing was there were a bunch of spanish speaking men behind me looking in the shallows for fish moving in. When they saw one it was like watching the sea gulls going after the gobies they all gathered in one spot casting their snag hooks at the fish trying to catch it. One guy almost fell in the lake they got so excited. They had a couple of salmon on a stringer that were nice size. I asked one of them that spoke english if any one of them had a salmon stamp on their licence his reply was No.I advised him that they need a salmon stamp if they keep the salmon and would you know it the game warden came walking on the pier and they all disappeared with the fish. Gave up and headed to the car and an older gent asked me where he could snag fish I told him on the north side of the harbor and not within 200 ft of any docked boat. He said he got a one day license and he said they told him he did not need a salmon stamp to snag with a one day license I refereed him to the game warden to see if he needed a stamp.

I'm glad you told the guys they needed a stamp. At least they've been warned.

I was there last night and it was a joke. Snaggers every where casting near the boats on both the GP side and SR side. Either the number I had for the patrol was wrong or they didn't answer.

Have the DNR show up around 11-12 midnight tonight. If it is as nice out tonight as it was last night the DNR will make enough
in stamp tickets and casting tickets to restock next year.

My encounters about bringing up the rules ended with back lashes and so whats..

it was a joke.

I am pretty sure the guy was right about the one day license...you don't need a stamp for the one day license because it covers everything for 24 hours.

trajan is correct- "The 24-hour license includes salmonid fishing
privileges in Lake Michigan" Illinois 2010 digest pg 5.

trajan is correct-

True, but I know for a fact that some of those guys out Friday did not have them.

Plus If you can't respect the signs and can't control yourself from casting into the boats then you deserve the ticket.

Snag away.. but lets be legit about it.

If the DNR showed up...Waukegan would be a cash cow!!! If i could catch 1 salmon in Oct for every 50 violators out there...the freezer would be full!!!
