I am looking to head out to mazonia this weekend to prefish a future tourney. I guess the lakes that i will be going to will be Pondarosa and Monster. Can you guys give me some directions from Homer Glen? Also what is the average depth and water calirity for those lakes, just wondering so i know what tackle to bring. :thanks

Buck,
Ponderosa and Monster, just like all of the other Mazonia Lakes are abandoned Strip Mines.
There are unending variables in both due to the digging and piling of slag of submerged structure.
You will need to be on your toes as you may come upon shallows out of nowhere from slag piles.
I think Monster is more fertile than Ponderosa. It will be murkier. When water is high, runoff from the Mazon river will enter Monster.
Use Google Earth to get a good airiel View of the area. You can zoom in and see a lot of the rock pile structure especially in Ponderosa. Both of the lakes you mentioned are in the Mazonia South Section.
Just about any "Search" for Mazonia will get you driving directions.
Both lakes are also gas motor allowed but with no wake operation.

From Homer Glen you would take Rt 45 to I -80 I 80 to I 55 South I 55 South to Rt 129 exit ( on the left )
Follow Rt 129 into Braidwood and cross the tracks in town. The rt number evades me now but just head SW for a few miles and you will see the entrance sign for Mazonia. There is an Office there where you can obtain further info, if someone is there.
I am sure you will get a few more replies so keep an eye out here.
Hope this helps you some.

A PM to board moderator Any Luc should lend you quite a bit more inside info than I can provide.
Tight lines.

Probably a little updated information, take I355 to I80, then follow the rest of Getdanet's directions. A good time can be had at Mozonia.
