Hi folks,

This is a great site with lots of info. I've been wanting to get into fishing on Lake Michigan for some time but just haven't been able to until now. I've only fished once on Lake Michigan - with my step-grandfather off Muskegon. He was an expert with his own boat and equipment. It was a highly successful outing (it was also 25+ years ago).

I'm living in Rogers Park two blocks from the beach. My question is - how should I go about getting started fishing from the beach? I have a limited budget and even less expertise (which this site is going to help).

Anyone have any suggestions to help a newbie out?

Thanks and looking forward to uploading some fish pics and possibly even swapping some fish tales.

Thanks,

Mitch

Mitch,

Welcome tot he site, glad you found us.

Fishing from the beach wouldn't be my first choice if I lived on the south end of the lake. There are a buch of guys that fish the harbor and this year we started a forum for shore fishing.

We started it somewhere around March of this year so reading the Salmon forum will also be a good option.

Do a couple searches with Montrose, Belmont or 95th Street and you should be able to put together a good game plan for hitting the shores. A lot of guys also talk about the gear they use.

Good fishing for Coho and browns starts early on the south end, guys get them floating crawlers under a float and casting spoons and body baits.

Hope that helps you get started.
