Hi Salmonhunter...I've never fished the Mchenry dam and one day I'll get out on the big pond ! I'm used to fishing for big fish...
ABC6743......I found a nice spot by the fishing pier..alot of good bites but no fish on the hook ! It's a nice area...we can't wait for the three oaks to open up !
Thank you both for getting back to me....it's a new area for me so all new adventures !

i8fish2,
I would not even fish that lake or touch that water. The French company, manufacturing PVC piping, has contaiminated that lake and the sorounding bodies of water. Many people are and have died from brain and other body cancers.
You don't know how else the contemation affects humans.
It's probably ok to fish, but I personally don't even want to be near that lake.

That is why I said no eating the fish there, but since so many people do not want to get near it the pike and cats and bass in the lake are larger than most areas around here. I also like to ice fish on crystal, but I am not a CL resident so the open water months are closed to me, unfortunately because I want to take my M68c around and graph some of the tire pile locations for winter walleye. oh well.
Also if you fish the MCCD sites remember that there is no live minnows or wading allowed. Although I have broken the wading rule and not had issues, even when wearing my waders and being stopped by MCPO's during spring trout season.

Crystal Lake has a lot of pressure and I only live a few blocks away, I have not seen anyone catch a Walleye!
Northern's are there and I had hoped people would not keep them, because its has a good number of Northerns and good size, but its a small lake and it can not sustain the pressure. I still have not caught a Bass in there. Crappie and Northerns are the primary species along with Blue Gills.
Others on this site know that lake pretty good as well.

Hey guys...wow look what I started ! Thanks for all the information I would have never known that some of the lakes have health issues ! I hope three Oaks opens up soon ! I lived a few blocks from Crystal Lake but once again closed for E-coli....yummy ! I'll spend 4 hours fishing..even if I don't catch any it's just nice to get out on the water.
