:drink Do yourself a favor and get a bag of salt for the truck. All the water from your Trailer makes for a slippery ramp at the end of the day. Just a cheap insurance for safe travels buddy

I'm hoping to get out on the Chain one last time (maybe two) before ice. I haven't fished the Chain this late, so I also am not sure about ramp options and conditions. I usually launch from the state park, but I hear that ramp is closed for hunting, and with the drawdown. I also doubt I could get through to Grass Lake - using my 16 foot deep V, with a 70 hp motor - runs about 18 inches bare minimum.

So where can I launch this time of year. I'm especially interested in a ramp on a northern lake, if possible, so I'd be closer to Marie, Channel or Catherine. But I'd launch further south if needed.

If you know of a place that is open, please let me know and could you also let me know about the condition of the ramp/cost etc.

Thanks,

We had no problem launching this morning with 28° air and 38° water temps, ramp was clear and dry but we had skim ice on our navigation path and the section we planned to fish had solid 1/4" ice that we had to break through and let the sun do the rest 8)~

With the lil warmup on the way we should be OK for 1-2 weeks, challenge will be locating active fish.

Fishing was slower than 2 weeks ago, this time we had to really fish for a change. They wanted meat presentations but for some reason minnows didn't get a single fish. Not ready yet to walk on water but would welcome it by 1st of the year 8)~

With all the snow melt and the rains recently the chain is very high now and muddy. Even with the draw down last month it's very high. FYI to any guys venturing out soon.

I didn't want to jump Dale Bowmans article before today.Water on the chain was stained and there is a good current, fish were really scattered .Whitebass, sheep and Dales tackle testing walleye came from 16 to 24 feet drifting..If you do launch at Bobs there is a large blowout hole at the bottom of the ramp so be careful..Mentones was being torn down on Channel lake and you may want to call someone if you launch or park there as trucks and bulldozers were there all day.We did see a nice walleye caught by a boat drifting next to us in the 5# plus range.Chain should be open by boat for another few weeks with little traffic.
