I was out working at some local establishments on the Chain of Lakes yesterday and watch in horror as I saw 3 guys fill 3 LARGE coolers with bedding Blue Gills. Now all the Gills were of decent size, and were caught by hook, line, and sinker. I am just wondering what the daily limit is for pan fish on the Chain of Lakes.

Under the general Summary of fishing regulations, Says that there are not limits in size or creel exept on those waters listed under site specific regulations.

I have the regulation here infront of me, and there are not any limits on Blue Gil on the site specific regulations for the Fox Chain O'Lakes.

Thre are however, limits for Large and small mouth bass, Muske, Walleye and Sauger

Just joined up Was starting to go through withdrawel symptoms.

Anyway,Not for panfish. As a matter of fact, the average size BlueGill has increased in size the last few years. It's not uncommon to pickup 8-9 inch gill's.

Welcome to the site! I have had some pretty good luck on the fox just north of the dam with some big gills. Some up near the 10" mark

Cory last year just above the dam there I was hooking into 8-12 inch gills fishing below the catwalk...You can't fish it from a boat..You'd have to park your boat by the rocks & hop on the island..

Thank's Cory, The CLF site has been down and I couldn't stand it anymore. Then I found this site. Looks pretty good!! Yea, there's no shortage of Gill's on the chain and the increase in gamefish and die off of the yellow bass has really helped the size. Years ago, the Gill's were pretty small on average. It's worth going after them now. Haven't got a ten inch yet but about two weeks ago I got into a nice group of 8-9's.[/img]

Thanks Marc, I hope I can provide some good information for other members. I have lived on and near the Chain for 40 years, but certainly won't claim to be an expert. Thing always change and the hunt for quality fish never ends.

By the way, I tried to login to the gallery and check out how it works but it wouldn't take my user/password yesterday. Is there something else I need to do?? Because of the weather, I haven't got out as much as I would like but always take a camera with me so I can post results, good and Bad. :? Hopefully, I will post a bunch this summer. I also like to fish the north river and the inland lakes of southern Wis. My favorite although I haven't been there in a few years is the Turtle Flowage. :)

PM me a password and we'll have you setup with image hosting.

jpulver and I used to fish the chain all the time of big gills but after two near death experiences we stopped going up there in the summer. We had one spot on Pistakee in 16 FOW where we would beat the hell out of the post spawn.

Yea your right, it gets dicey out there at times. I usually stay away from the traffic and hit the channels on the weekends or Sunday nights when all the power boat's are done can be a great time to get out. The north river is also quite most of the time because of the no-wake but have had a couple of close calls up there too. I hate to say it but the times I had close encounters on the river, was with "so called" fisherman not obeying the no-wake. Unfortunately, on the chain, there's alot of questionable fisherman as well as boaters. :? Just too many people and not enough water.

Well, I made it back out to that lake and caught a few of those panfish for a real nice dinner for 5.
I was catching these fish dangling. I use a 10ft noodle rod and a slide bobber. Bait the Blood Red Daichi hook with Night Crawler chunks add a split shot or two to keeep the bobber laying on it's side (barely) and slowly retrieve from deep water to shallow water. Casting is made easier with the Noodle rod (deep water is 30yrds from shore)
