Hey All-
Veronica and I fished the FRV Chapter's Challunge on the Chain on Saturday 4/24. About 80+ boats signed up in 2-person teams. Tourney ran 7AM-4PM. Cold front hit about 4AM (just as we were leaving the house) and temps dropped 14-16 degrees in about 60 minutes. Wind went ENE and we kinda knew we were in for an interesting day. Glad to have the bibs and longies on- it be raw out there! Veronica raised a good fish (37-39") at 9:45AM. Came in hot out of shallow water- chasing a silver and purple bucktail. Got to the boat though and got into the shadow of the boat (still a bit of sun at that time) and it just spooked in a heartbeat- not to be seen again. Lament but keep tossing. Twenty minutes later it was my turn. Raised a low to mid 30's fish on a white baby Bulldawg but it was much more lethargic than V's fish. Tracked the bait, followed at boatside on one big circle- then gone. That was the extent (other than a 12" fish that followed up my 10" Killer Eeel on Bluff in the early afternoon- hysterical looking sight) of our action. Everyone we spoke to on the water was struggling but the tourney shook out this way:
14 fish caught, largest 45.5" (15 minutes before the end of the tourney and virtually right in front of the tourney HQ!- way to go guys!), a 45" fish, a 41", a couple of 39's, a 35", a couple 33's and a couple 31's. Veronica's luck got better though than her experience with the fish in the AM. Her ticket was drawn for the Grand Prize Raffle! She won a 7-day trip for two to the Angle Outpost on Lake of the Woods for musky fishing and hopefully some grouse hunting (nudge nudge, wink wink) in the fall of 2005! What a cool deal that is! Now if she'll take me along- life will be good!!! Thanks to FRV for running a really well-organized event and to the Thirsty Turtle on Channel Lake for hosting. Good Job All!

Musky action WILL pick up here in the next 7-10 days if the forecast is accurate. Spawning going on now and there's going to be some good things happening with the toothy fish in the next couple weeks. Stay tuned!

More later - tight lines all.

Todd / Into The Outdoors.

Great report Todd thanks and you two still walked away winners, that sounds like an excellent trip!

Hey Todd, Did'nt Veronica win a G Loomis rod at one of Night Prowler's tournaments last year? She has the luck of the irish when it comes to raffles! You two should be the next big power ball winners  Tight Lines, Ron
