Way to go Mark, just a tip for next time, set your drag lighter-it should have been taking line out way before it broke your rod.Don't be surprised if you land a big flathead catfish, there are some biggies by you.

Odds are it was a carp. There are some monsters in the chain. Got to tell ya, they are fun to catch.

Hard to tell from your picture Mark, but is the broken rod a Berkley Cherrywood? If it is, and you send it back to them, they will replace it for free, no questions asked.

Tom No kiddin'? I had two and broke one. I just tossed it out as it was a good 10 years old and was probably my fault that it broke. Unless I can blame the universe and the law of gravity because my rod locker hatch dropped on it and broke it.

Unless I can blame the universe and the law of gravity because my rod locker hatch dropped on it and broke it. I have sent two to them, and they were both replaced. One broken from a fish, one from a Suburban door. Last one I sent to them had to be 2 years ago, but the first one was about 10 years ago. Worth a phone call or e mail. Last rod I replaced through Pinnacle was a Silstar 8'6" downrigger rod, and all they required was a picture of the rod and a picture of the specs. I didn't even have to ship it back to them. Many of these companies do this, I believe, because they want your repeat business. Works on me. Tom

Mark, I always enjoy your Chain reports, thanks! Some solid fish for sure! mark b wrote: hey guys,

so what was it...... a big turtle, a big fish or the loch ness monter........????????????????? It wouldn't suprise me a bit if it was big toothy critter. The muskie on the chain are definitely post spawn, and are on the prowl again. Alot of those bigger females are relating shallow still. Nothing like a small bait/snack for them, especially at this time of year. Just a thought.
