I hit the Chain today with TJP for a day of muskie fishing. Water temps started out out 58 and warmed to 61-62 by the afternoon. Muskie are post spawn right now, so we focused on weed lines and shallow spawning bays. We had four follows during the day and managed to hook up with a nice female around high noon. Fish was in great shape with only a few scares on her back. Caught this fish on a storm swim bait trying to match the pods of bait fish we found. Overall, not a bad day at all on the Chain.

Nice fish.... On the Chain, is there one "good centrally located" place to launch a 18.5 ft boat? Haven't been there in close to 40 yrs, and then we fished out of rental row boats.. Thanks..

And it's free.

State park is the place to launch. Nice ramps, lots of parking, and its right in the middle of North or South Chain lakes. Only problem is, got to go slow with the engine up on the way to the lake. Channel is shallow.

The entire river is no wake anyhow and the channel isn't always in the middle

It was a pleasure having Husker onboard , he is a hell of a "SKI-MAN" !!! The Chain is looking promising , weed flats are coming up nice , Channel and Catherine were very clear , Marie and Bluff were stirred up . There was a bass tourney going on and a bunch of dumba$$ pleasure boaters that must of just put their boats in the water and wanted to burn up some gas !!! We came across some real jerks , like a guy with his very young kid in a 14' tiller come by us open throtle about 20' from us and if that wasn't enough we had a real dip$hit with a 30' Baja, twin engines run between us and shore...... shore was about 75' away !!!! anyway it was great to chase down some toothy's and enjoyed a good day with a good friend... Hey Chitown musky nuts , I think it's time to head to Pirece ???? here's a couple more of the one that made the net ...

Barnacle Bob's has what I have decided must be a tiered system. If you are helped by one of the pretty young ladies, you pay $15.00. If you pay the younger guy, same thing. If it's the big, older, white haired gentleman and you make sure to NOT call him Bob, but rather call him Tom, you pay $12.00.

Nice fish Husker!I never fished the chain yet. After doing a little research on the area,I read about something called a Fox Waterway user fee?Is this sticker mandatory? Here's a link, still not sure if this is mandated?Seems like the money would go to a good cause and probably worthwhile. http://www.foxwaterway.state.il.us/#
