Hi Tom and welcome to Chi-Town.

The traffic you are seeing is probably a combination of crappie hunters and pre-spawn bass fisherman. I personally have not heard of any catches but many are tight-lipped about their outings. 8)

You may want to try hitting the shorelines with small jigs and minnows or slip bobber set ups and you might be surprised at what you find.

I can remember rigging rowboats at my dad's resort in the early 70's. I don't think there was a Bass fisherman that didn't hit Redhead back then. That was back when most of the lake was lily pads. Many came back with huge bass. I personally haven't fished it since the 70's but I wouldn't give up yet.

Naa, I didn't start my dancin' til about 77ish. A short lived career.

Tom I can't ever remember Readhead being that deep. I don't think the lake was anything more than swamp and drainage from Brandenberg lake until they built the Mchenry dam which raised all the lakes by about 4 feet. I can remember some areas that were probably 6ft but thats about it. :)
