What is the best way to store your paddel on the water when you are casting without having it latched in on the side? I cast from my left side.

If you dont want it latched to the boat you can just leave it in the water with a paddle leash.

I lay it in my lap to make minor adjustments to the kayak

Unless I'm being rocked by big waves, I just lay it across my lap. Maybe 10% of the time, I'll attach it to the side of the kayak. Once and awhile, I'll lay it along one of my legs.

I latch it on the side, like Ron said across the lap unless its choppy, Ive had the paddle catch a wave before and the other end flies forward smacking me!

Oh, and I keep a small spare paddle under deck, just in case.
