None. The emotion is the best one you posted, get a Ocean Kayak Trident. I have a pelican canoe.. not the best purchase I have made. Even this one is not too bad if price is an issue. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/store ... rchResultsI would stay away from a Sit in.. every one I know that bought one wishes they got a Sit on top.

Hi guys; I'm a Lake Mich troller, SuzyQ. Just bought a kayak, Old Town Derigo. Planning to get a second kayak . What's your view on the Derigo? It has two rod holders on the back and one up front, with a storage cup for drinks or dry goods. I love fishing for smallies in the kayak, it's a blast. LL Bean has a great selection and I'm thinking of getting the second one there. The pelican looks intersting but does it have rod holders. P.S I pop rivetted the front rod holder in.

I haven't paddled a Dirigo but I've sat in one and it seemed very comfortable. Installed a Scotty rod holder in my WS Pungo 140 too. A drill, some screws and some silicone and it wasn't too tough. Lots of options out there, whether sit-in or sit on top, which will provide great fishing setups. Pluses and minuses to both styles. It's been a trend the last few years, with manufacturers recognizing the kayak fishing market segment and coming up with nice fishing packages. The Wilderness Systems Tarpon series is another nice option. http://www.wildernesssystems.com/produc ... cts/angler And Feelfree kayaks have a sit on top with a wheel built into the keel, making it easier to transport the boat alone across a parking lot or down the street, etc. http://www.feelfreekayak.com/products/moken12-angler/

The Pelican SOT sells for $379 at The Academy which is a sporting goods store down south. The nearest one is in Tennessee. Unfortunately, they won't ship. For that price it is hard to go wrong. I'm going to wait until that yak goes on sale at Dick's to under $500 and get it. I've read quite a few reviews and I'm comfortable with what I read. While there are better yaks out there, cost is an issue and the Pelican is in my budget. Good luck.

Willysol wrote: thx The sit ons seem to be more popular because of safety factor.?? Thanks I don't think it's the safety factor, although some SOT's emphasize that you can stand in them in calm water and cast. I think it's the fact that you have spaces where you can place a box or crate and have easy access to it - especially behind you. Heck, you can store a tank and go SCUBA diving from some SOT's! Mine is a recreational, sit-inside boat but has a big cockpit so I have some space in front of me. If you had a regular touring kayak - with a spray skirt etc you'd be the safest in the case of rough water and big waves - but you'd be limited in your fishing setup. There is no perfect boat, but there are boats very well-tailored for whatever you use it for. Mine is good enough for fishing and good for all-around paddling and moves pretty well...a compromise I decided on when I bought it. The best boats? I guess those would be ones we actually get to use! One more to look at, just for fun: http://www.freedomhawkkayaks.com/ Talk about different!

Howard Sprague wrote: Which Pelican SOT? a "Castaway"? . Yeah that is what I meant. I didn't realize he linked The Pursuit. But I still think the Castaway is good deal for $379.

Thanks, Bill Here's the site: http://www.rutabaga.com/canoecopia/page.asp?pgid=1001The speaker schedule should be up pretty soon, it's always an outstanding lineup. I believe the list of vendors is up. My attempt to post pics on this site, a few shots I took of Canoecopia last year: [img][img][/img][/img]

Nice shots, I will make time to see the show. If prices are good I may buy an Ocean Kayak sot or a Hobie depending on price. I understand the Hobie starts around 1,300 to 1,500 ouch. I looked at boats at Bass Pro, they carry Old Town and Ocean Kayaks.. Both brands of fishing sots look pretty good. Although the sales guy insists the Hobie is in a class of its own. Keep the bits of info going for guys like me . Good info always helps.

Decided to buy a Trident 13 Angler made by Ocean Kayak. Hope this works out . Can't afford the Hobie Angler, but Hobie offers a Trolley anchor system that's pretty good. Did a lot of checking on U-tube. Noticed the Trident and Prowler is used quit a bit in salt water and looks pretty stable. Just waiting for the weather to break.

I have the Pelican Castaway, didnt get it from Costco. Would'nt recomend it to somebody thats not familar with a kayak, its a bit tippy getting in & out. once your sitting its pretty stable. I had another no name yak that was so stable I could stand in it so there was a little getting used to the Pelican. Its heavy 2. I have another yak that you sit in opposed to on & its half the weight & very stable.
Thats just my 2 cents, I am far from being any type of expert.
