In addition to holding the boat record for King salmon, my father (and his lucky horseshoe) also holds the boat record for both Brown Trout and Lake Trout.

The lake trout was caught on Jult 25th, 1999. We were fishing just east of the Waukegan (South) Reef in 175'. The bait was a chrome/prism 0 dodger and white fly on a downrigger, set down 75'. As I recall, it fought like a typical laker; just dead weight. All 20.4# of it. We stopped the boat and it still took almost 30 minutes to crank it in.

The boat record brown trout was caught on August 24, 2001. On this date, we were fishing northeast of Waukegan, about half way to the nuke plant, again in deep water. This one hit in 173', on a rigger down 73', pulling a smoke 0 dodger and a blue/green/black fly. It tipped the scale at 21.3#.

Ironically, I had also netted a new boat record steelhead only 2 weeks earlier. My cousin's husband had reeled in a 14.7# steelhead that remains my boat record for that species to this day. Unfortunately, we did not get a photo of that fish. It had eaten a magnum Silver Streak green alewife, 150' behind a Fireline dipsy. That one also was caught over deep water; 167', northeast of Waukegan.

Jerry,
What I don't understand is that these records where
on your boat. How come dad is holding the records?

Is he still living?

Nice fishing! Memories.

dajord,

Yeah, he is still with us. We just dropped the deposit on our Canadian fishing trip for this August. He is in all the photos because he reels in all the big fish! Somehow, the fish seem to know when it is his turn to grab the rod. It has kind of become a running joke... in the last 10 years, there have been nine legitamate, weighed them on a scale, 20# or over fish caught on my boat. My father has caught six of them. Each of the other three were caught by different people, one apiece. Myself, I have yet to reel in a 20# fish on my own boat! Although, I have caught a couple fish over 20# on charters (my personal best king salmon is 28#).

And I wouldn't have it any other way! I have no idea how many more years I will get to fish with my father, so I will keep passing the rods to him, as long as we get to spend the time together.

Amen to that Bro!

I know you would pass the rod to anyone other
than yourself, and you don't mind it if they are
enjoing it and having fun. That's why many on this
forum, including myself, have much respect for you
as a true fisherman.

Thanks for all your inputs and posts.
