The daily launch fee will be $10, or $100 season pass for Winthrop Harbor residents, $150 season pass for anyone else.

Season is May 1st to October 31st

They will have some kind of payment kiosk that will take cash or credit card.

Still cheaper than Waukegan.

I wonder if slip holders will have access to the ramps or will we have to pay if we need to pull our boat for whatever reason?

Ouch! But for better improvement of Northpoint Marina, $10 dollars a trip isnt a big deal.
Since I started trolling, I dont think I've gone more than 15x a year. I guess Iam just goin to pay day per day.
For all the regulars, do you guys launch more than 15x a year? What's everyone's avg?

Thank you Mr SU president for the heads up.

I dont know - haven't heard about any improvements with this money. I had asked harbor manager about ramp fee last year. Was told reason for fee was to help pay for management - maintenance of ramp and beach area. Something not part of their original aggrement with the DNR.

Forgot to mention, last major improvements to that area where a new improved fish cleaning station and the pavilion. Both SU IL projects. Big thanks to our members (this is the stuff SU does with your membership dues and the help of thier volunteering) and the hard work and dedication of our President, board and generosity of sponsors and some members that go tbe extra mile.

Thanks and best regards to all of them!!

Heck, imagine what it costs just to seal coat all that asphalt, which they need to do? Pull the docks for winter, put them in for springtime? Repairs etc....... Westrec is there to make money and without a full Harbor, revenue needs to come from somewhere.

New pool should be ready around June 1st. That will help the harbor occupancy rate I would think?

It’s a business, nobody should be surprised by this.

15x a year +/- sounds.about right for me.

Jim,
I think the pool will be a popular spot - improvement. Didn't mean for post to sound westrec negative. Seems like they have already done alot to repair - improve things. The only thing that surprised me (pleasantly) was fee being only $10. Expenses to run, maintain - manage the beach and ramp area has to be a huge number. To bad they can't get Skipper Buds to rework the parking area. All the heavy equipment and winter storage has beaten things up pretty good over the years.

I emailed Mark Stevens at Northpoint Marina asking about slipholders using the ramp. This was his response:

Hello Ron,

Yes, launch ramp fees are included in your annual slip fee.  Just stop by the office any day you need to use the ramp for a temporary day pass.

The pay system we are installing will be a self-serve system like the parking pay stations in Chicago.  Boaters launching will print out a ticket and place on the dash of their car unless they have purchased a season pass from the office and have a decal on their vehicle.

Slip holders can pick up a temporary pass from the office if needed.

Respectfully,

Mark L. Stevens

Hopefully this means that the parking lot will be available to boaters launching and not sailboats doing maintenance work. If you have to pay $10 you should not have to park a mile away.

Depending on where you're coming from and where the fish are.

Still cheaper than Waukegan if the fish are north when you consider the boat ride. The parking situation sucks in the spring and always has, and it may get better now that we're not waiting on the state to get things done so they can get boats in the water and out of the lot. This is also weather pending, year to year. The fact that Gladiator says they have new docks at the launch already, sounds like things are moving along nicely already this year.

There is plenty of good fishing around Waukegan and south, and I launch there every year in the spring and fall, and last year at the Pass the Passion :D

Much better facilities at Northpoint, partially thanks to the efforts of SU. Can't wait for the pool, looking forward to going and talking to the nice girls to get my launch passes, and looking forward to my free month at the Yacht Club for new slip holders  They're gonna love me!

Was down at the launch area today. The docks look new but they aren't, they had dock boards replaced, were power washed and had the white rubber on the edges reattached. The cleats were moved around and I only see two missing on piers 9 & 10 at the end. Pier 1 & 2 still have the last section to be installed.
A very positive change to the launch/retrieve area. The North fixed docks have yet to be installed.

Looks useable!
