I went and fished the St. Joe River in Berrien Springs, MI today with Johnny Lazarich and Luke Zubek and it was a stellar day. The weather was near perfect for a mid November day, 63 degs. and sunny for most of the day. We caught a limit of 9 fish, 8 steelheads and 1 lake trout. We left my house at 3:00 A.M. for the ride to Michigan and were eating breakfast at the Bob Evans off exit 29 when it opened at 6:00 A.M. Michigan time, which is an hour earlier than Illinois. We met Bill Doak, of Four Season's Charter at 6:30, fished until 2:00 P.M. and were back in my garage by 3:30 or so.

Most of the fish were caught with spawn on a 3 way river rig, but 2 were caught on an orange gold flat fish.

Here's some pictures of the day.

If you have never fished the St. Joe or even if you have and are looking for a good charter in the next few months to scratch your fishing itch, give Bill Doak a call, he's a great fisherman and really knows that river.

Now that sure is a successful trip.

On a side note*, never saw an anchor like this before, can you explain.

Chain anchors are used alot up in Michigan rivers. You need lots of weight to hold a boat loaded with guys and gear in current. Conventional anchors dig in and are prone to hang up on the ever changing bottoms of rivers, trees, rocks, etc. Best to use something that just lays on the bottom and the shear weight holds you. I have a 16 and a half foot boat and I quess my anchor weighs around 45 lbs. The one shown may weigh close to 100 lbs. No sharp corners to catch on anything. Hope this explains it.
