We held our club tournament yesterday at Northpoint Marina with the boat Duckbill as tournament boat and here are the results.

1st Place - Follow Me, with Captain's John and Kevin Massard $125

2nd Place - Jawzon, with Captain Jim Stepp $75

3rd Place - Nail Bender too, with Captain John Messina $50

Top Small Boat was Flying Dutchman with Captain Tim Potoczny $100

Top Rookie Boat of this tournament and of the year so far is Flying Dutchman

Big Fish of the tournament was a 15.4 lb King caught on Alco II with Captain Jim Klausing $250

Big Target Fish was a 15.4 lb King caught on Alco II $100

Great job by everyone involved and a special thank you to Captain Bill Meier for doing such a good job as tournament boat and for providing all the great food!

We had a total of 25 boats that fished, not the 24 we thought yesterday, so Jim Klausing, I owe you another $10 for the side bet.

Sounds like a great turnout.

I got out yesterday, a little later than the field, and went 10-14. Now Flying Dutchman said he thought he should have gone shallower but the Depth Raider on my boat was marking pretty warm temps off on NP heading toward Kenosha in 50' of water. In 50', 30' down, we still showed temps in the low to mid 50's. Looking to target 42 to 48 degrees, we traveled out to 120' and started taking fish there. No real size to them, biggest around 8lbs, but definitely our most consistent action.

Does anyone have any confirmation on the inshore water temps they were getting? I'm assuming my Depth Raider was working correctly, which is why we went east by 8a.m. Thanks all and again, great job.

Hey guys,

If you don't mind me asking.....of the boats that stayed in close to shore for the tournament this past Saturday, do you know if their bite was basically just an early bite or if their fishing stayed consistent most of the day?

This water temp issue I spoke about is really bugging me and I'm just curious how now in the future I decide whether to start shallow or not. I was basing it on water temps and whether I saw bait on the graph or not. Since I saw neither in the shallower water, I started my troll out deeper.

The bite was strong for us on saturday i never went deeper than 35 feet we had 31 bites saturday morning it is very hard for me to fish outside when the water is this cold inside BUT i did go out side friday to prefish we went from 100 to 180 feet surface was 70 degrees down 25 feet it was 47 down 100 it was 44 degrees we had 6 on boated four all little fish i guess that is why we prefish if we can i am so glad i stayed in side saturday we took second place in the tourney but i am still learning we had 2 coho one was 7 and one was 9 lbs if we would of weighed one of the cohos instead of a small king the target fish we would have won once again i am still learning JAWZON

Thanks Jawzon. I just hope the Depth Raider isn't misfiring and that perhaps (more likely) it was user error. I never checked the water temp shallower than 50 feet overall depth but once I saw the warmer water i jumped outside. I'll chalk this up to a learning experience and use it in the future. Thanks again.

I also stayed in at 35' for Saturdays' tournament. Since it was just my wife and I this time, once we hit our 10 fish, we had to pull lines. That was at 8:30, but sure seemed like the bite was still going strong. Joe.
