Went out for the afternoon to the Mazonia Lakes for the first time yesterday, going after panfish. My brother and I fished for a couple of hours and did pretty well. The bite started off pretty slow, but as the day went on and the sun went down the Crappies started heating up. We trolled and casted the shorelines with Beetle Spins and Crappie crankbaits. We did our best casting the areas that were out of the wind and the areas in the shade. We had to work through alot of dinks to get to the better fish. The bite was pretty light, we lost a decent amount of fish. Our biggest one of the day fell off right next to the boat, and my brother lucky scooped it up with the net. We went out on our 12'' fiberglass boat and were very surprised we did as well as we did without having a fish finder and it being our first time. We took a couple crappie home with us and fried them up with some venison steaks. Couldn't have asked for a better way to end a day of fishing.

Big thanks to Any Luc and wsj_outdoorsman for all the posts over the years on the strip mines, we learned alot and they were very helpful.

It is the perfect time to be aggressive with your presentations. Casting cranks like the mini Yo Zuri Snap Bean and Snap shad, #2 and #3 Salmo Hornets and the like, along the submergent weed bed edges, produces well.
You two are so diverse.
Nice job for first trip or any trip and I’m sure you both enjoyed the look and feel of the strip pits.

A double drop shot rigs works nicely along the edges as well..........
Glad you both were able to enjoy the winners meal, looks mighty tasty.

I'll vouch for the dinner. :allah

Crappies, broccoli and cheddar rice with garlic shrimp, and venison steak with coffee rub.

We keep eating like this, they are going to need a bigger boat. :crazy

Well done boys.

Tom
