Don't put a pike in the pond, it will only stunt the pond further. The pike will eat the larger bass which you need to reduce the bluegill population. You need to replenish the bass population with a stocking of 8-10" fish.

If I can bring the kiddies, I would love to help. If the kids HAVE to be left at home....well i guess I'll just have to live with that :winker

I live NW side Chicago, Jefferson Park, but travel to navy base about once a week. Also have five kids that I would love to tie into a load af bluegills. Plus could use them for catfish bait. Bluegills not the kids.

Kennyman, This post is a month old now. How about an update on your pond. Curious to see if there are any changes. Any reduction in the panfish quantity? Keep us posted.

You're right Sea... An update is in order. A few Chitowners have been out and have helped some with the pond as well as my son and I.

The pond is very choked with weeds right now.... (something else I have to try to remedy) and you have to fish in the 'holes' somedays. The bluegill bite is hit and miss because they have been sitting on their beds and dont bite much (havent tried live bait though). The crappies are so small and many times they are just hanging onto the tail of your jig and let go as soon as you try to bring em in.

I would say to date we have removed over 100 crappies and maybe 50 or so bluegills total. Not bad at all!!!! A good sign is the past 2 times I have been out I have caught a handful of 3-4" bass! As long as they dont become bigger bass food the bass population should continue to be good.
