Well thank you all for your post, we spent two hours at a local pond, i was wanting to maybe get my five year old son Collin in to some catfish, so we put some worms on a bobber and put them out and before i could grab my rode he was yelling daddy so my wife amanda set up my daughters pole as we wrangled the five inch bluegill into the bank, we have to have got atleast 60 bluegills all of them 4 to 5 inch's, me and my wife really didnt get a chance to fish but my kids loved it, my only fear is i may have hurt the cause, when we go fishing in the future and they dont get a bite every three seconds they might lose intrest but we will always have the pond i guess, but it was a blast my son went to set the hook and set so hard he fell on his butt and go figured didnt get the fish, but we had lots of laughs and thats what its all about, my daughter after she got her first fish i told her she had to kiss it for good luck now she wants to kiss every single fish we caught

Bring some snacks and goodies to occupy them when the fishing slows. When they don't seem interested anymore, leave and bring them back another time when it is non stop. They'll be hooked soon enough. You're going about it the right way Dad.

Lived the "not getting the chance to really fish" with my 3 kids.. trust me, it's worth it! ;-)
You will never forget these days, nor will the kids...
(but they will expect to catch a fish every 30 seconds now)

I hear ya! Fortunilly all the local lakes have are filled with those dink panfish. Enough so you can pretty much have non-stop action to keep a child's interest pirqued. If ya want fish for the table, that's another story... But it's so much fun when they catch one, nothing quite like it!
