Salmon and Trout
Seems that's all I see around this house any more.

So
Yo!
It's September! Bluegill fishing should be getting back in full swing. I can't wait to see some September Hootchi Momma pics on Chitown! So, on behalf of all knobby heads, I will be sending out a free six pack of Any's Big Ole Knobby Headed Hootchi Momma spinner rigs to whomever posts their fishing report with pics of the longest AND the most beautiful bluegill they caught in September.(Fish must be caught this September....fish from 1992 don't qualify! Wink ) We got a long weekend coming up....hope to read some reports and see some new pics next week!!!
Any

On 9/02/09(unseasonably cold for this time of year) Bob and I left for our secret lake x monster of all monster bluegill hunts. Arriving at our first spot on the lake we noticed a large boil in the water. Upon aproaching this boil we saw the mother of all gills. We deceided to leave this beast alone, and come back later to try and fool her. About 2hrs later, Bob armed with a Rebelcraw & I with a Roostertail, came in all stealth like, and started casting. Well, after 30 minutes & a flurry of casts... Nada, Zip, Zilch! No sign of the big girl anywhere. Bob said..."Chas, why don't we give it a rest, and try first thing in the morning" I said "fine, sounds like plan". The next morning with all the joy in the world Bob & I raced back to the sacred spot where we first spotted the beast the day before. All set up, trolling motor in water, creeping toward the spot... Bob suprised me with a tactical change. He said "I know she's going to be expecting some artifical type of offering, so I think I can fool her with a ice jig tipped with a spike, under a slip float". I thought to myself "no way!!". Well sure enough, Bob flips the suprise offering out, and the float comes to rest, only to be GONE in a blink of an eye. After a 25 minute battle, me almost going over board trying to net her, she finally comes to rest at the bottom of the Frabil.

Her she is... Enjoy!

Ya know,
Something about all this sounds a little fishy ta me but that gal sure is a beaut.

That's a legitimate start I say for sure!

I just... don't remember it being all that cold.
Must have been though.
I guess.

:hum leaves are still on the trees around wsj's house.

Plus it needs to be purple breasted one to make the bank, (in wsj's book) those yellows just never get as big, a few orange, well maybe.

But for an "AnyLuc" spinner the truth just might be stretched a bit.

No truth stretching here, we're on a "strick honor code" (Wouldn't want to get disqaulified from the contest) Besides, if I was tweaking the story, I would have said the fish fell for a Dan Gapen Ugly Bug.

Went out a few days ago and this post inspired me to go after some beefie gills. I caught this blunt skull on a slip bobber rig about 8' from shore. This guy ran like a little northern. Image

Very nice. Looks like a longear sunfish, yes? I'll bet that dude gave a nice fight alright.

Got down to the pits last Friday for a few hours. Caught a couple dozen on 1/32oz jigs, tipped with a plastic wedgee and a wax worm. Largest true gill went 8". A 12" perch and a 10" rock bass too. Sure would have liked to get into a bunch of them perch. 75-77 degree surface temps. No redears that day. Was beautiful weather, nice to get out and get a little color. Sorry, no pics. When I think September... football season, hunting season, skiers calling it quits after Labor Day... I'm thinking less and less about the gills and more and more about the crappie. :ohya

I too look forward to the reports. Bring on Gillzilla!

Hybrid bluegill I believe.
An aggressive feeder and powerful battler.

Nice size.

I have some great closeups of big bluegills, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to create my gallery.

I'm tech challenged, can anyone help? I have downloaded the software to resize but how do I use it?

Thanks wsj. I get to the screen where it says my upload was successful but when I hit continue, I get a blank screen. SBC global is my provider so I'm thinking that is my problem. How do I get to a non-sbc browser?

Most often when we get the blank screen after the successful upload, the reason is we have loaded photos that are too large. Set the pixel counts to 800 before loading them onto the site and you should be fine.

Boatnup,
I fish on purpose for Crappie and Gills at Lake Sara.
You will also come up with Stripers, Catfish, Rock bass and those Green Fish with big mouths.

There are still a few Walleyes in the lake from a stocking a long time ago but they are few and far between. One of my pards hooked a 6 1/2 pounder last year fishing a Crappie spot off a ledge.
There are some large Cats and even the smaller 5-6 pounders will give you a real tussle on a ultralight outfit.
They will hit Worm Minnow and even wax worms on a jig head.
