It's that time of year again , gills are on the verge of bedding

Top pic is a close up of this fish, but most look like this

Don't know exactly why but I see a few of those "blue" ones only at this time of the year

I often find the ones in the first picture bedding really close to shore. The only problem is "shore" at my favorite FPD lake is 10 feet from where it normally is.

RT,I solved the shore fishing problem by taking a 9' , 4 wt fly rod blank and building it
into a just a wonderfully fun" panfish catcher " spinning rod

Image
as demonstrated by a casual looking Tinyfisher, spawning definitely plays a part in their "blue" coloration
but why not all and just an occasional one...…. today I got one I swear was pink
Again I don't know why but I'm having a ball trying to figure it out :winker

VanGogh would be jealous

My uncle would take those fly sticks and install a spinning reel on them and use them for walleye's........50 years ago.

I'm going to try tomorrow while the pup's getting groomed.I found my 12 foot extendable dippin rod and I'll put 10' of line on it.Caught a whole can of worms off the greens at the golf course today.

Well I just got on them and the dog groomer called and wanted me to come right away and hold the dog because he was nipping when they cut around his head.So I've got a good starting spot for saturday, but the fish were mostly females.Maybe with a couple nice days the males will come in and start making nests. Also in my walking around I saw hatchlings everywhere so I assume the bass had a good spawn.
