Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me. Fishing Busse Woods below the dam
and saw a small mink in it's summer brown coat. Watched it for several min before it
disappeared into the grass. Fished this morning by Swedish after I saw my doctor.
Water really low and there above the dam was another larger brown mink. Figures
I didn't have my camera both times. For you naysayers yes I do know the diff
between a mink and a rat. Has anyone else seen one while Fishing.?
As far as fishing goes in both spots nada.

Saw a weasel hiking along the Illinois/Michigan canal a few years back. There's lots of
wildlife you don't often see if you can disconnect from the crazy world and just observe
nature. Watch out for those big snakes! Ferrets are cool pets for those inclined to
weasel worship.

Seen them on the des plaines but very infrequently. Cool find and part of the fun of being out in nature! Thanks for sharing!

I saw a mink once, thirty years ago, while fishing on Lake Vermilion. They are totally different from a rat, and a rare sight. Very cool!

It's funny you menitoned minks. My girlfriend and I took a walk on the trail at Buffalo Creek Preserve in Buffalo Grove yesterday. At one of the bridge crossings on the way back to the car we saw a large mink. First one I have seen in IL in a long time, was very unexpected and very cool to see. That being said, I see at least one almost everytime I fish Kenosha or Racine. Seems like those things are all over the place there, although they usually are not as big as the one i saw yesterday.

We used to see them all the time at Busse, especially back in Clearwater Bay (when there used to be decent gills back there). Cool little critters.
