Launched @ 95th 2-3 foot of chop put us in the river.Headed toward the
locks, but got shut out by aslo barge. With limited time we started fishing back
toward the Lake.Caught to shorts on the end of the steel wall at the locks
on crankbaits.Backed of and fished tubes, carolina rigs and drop shot no
more bites.Off to the Ford plant, marking fish but not catching .Caught
another short in 25 fow on the drop shot(3 in. grub).Caught
one more non keeper large mouth this time.Got dark quick so we were
at the launch @ 7:05.Fun day on a suprising clean and clear river.

Marc,

It depends on the day. I have have fished days on the river 3 days in a row and on the 1st day catch all large and the next two catch all smallies. But I would say that I catch more smallmouth than largemouth. Maybe it is the color tackle I use cause it aimes more at the smallies then Largemouth???

I have fished it for 3 years, and all I have gotten was largemouth. I think your right about the bait Tom. I usually throw green tube jigs.

I'll have to say we fish for the smallies, which for the same size as a large-
mouth weighs much more.We target rock bluffs, long points and areas with
alot of current(areas more likely to hold smallmouth). We also try to find
the clearest water,or a mudline.Tubes and grubs in watermelon,or green
pumpkinseed work for smallies, when black and blue seem to produce
largemouth.Crankbaits in red and brown catch more smallies then the
chartruese and oranges which will catch the other.Spinnerbaits any color
will catch either species, but bigger spinnerbaits 3/8 and 1/2's seem to
catch more smallies.Just my personal experience, but like Tom said for
no reason 1 day your on smallies the next largemouth. But really there
is no complaints wichever species is fine with me.

Thanks for the good info Mike. I think I need to try areas with more current.
