Couldn't get anyone to make the trip with me, so I hit the Cal Sag solo.
Launched out of Alsip at about noon, and after having a heart to heart talk with my outboard ( I have not had my boat out since 7/4, and it wouldn't hold an idle, and smoked like crazy) I made my way to the Dolton turning basin. Fished the dump all the way down to the end, and picked up 9 bass, with 3 being keepers. Here's one of them

Image

Fished the roped off docks on the northside of the river at Skips, and picked up 4 more with 2 being keepers.

Made a run to Lake Calumet (motor runs like a champ now. Just needed to be blown out a bit) and hit just the points. I have never gone back into the Lake b/4, and I wont until I go with someone who knows the shallow spots. Saw one log submerged about 1 foot under the surface, at one of the finger openings, that would have torn an outdrive off. Hit the two biggest fish of the day, a 3.5lb and a 4lb. off a rocky windblown point.

Hit the dump and piers by Skips on the way in, and caught 8 more, all short, but still a blast. All fish caught on a 3 inch green pumkinseed tube, with a 1/8th ounce jig. Most fish came in 4 feet of water or less, around any type of structure, or in any shaded area.

This was on saturday! I put out an invite to share my boat, but no one could make it. I will put up a Lake Michigan post from yesterday from Marc and myself. That was a blow off work day, and you will not believe the day we had. I am almost afraid to put it up, because I still can't believe how good we did. Need to get some work done, but will put it up b/4 the end of the day.

Well like I said I am working too hard. It's rough being a nice guy and doing favors for those friends that are constructionly challenged! 30' of base down and 300' to go!
I would love to head out with you Shark. Maybe in the next week or two. Looks like a good possiblility I may have a week off here in a couple.

The locks were fine. Hit it right b/4 they closed on the way out, and on the way in it was about a 5 min. wait. No big deal, no real hassle.

Traffic was pretty light on saturday Tom. Might be a different story with the boats starting to come up river to get pulled out for the season, in the next few weeks.

This weekend is out for the boat. I played hooky too much this week already. Need to catch up with some work, and stuff to do with the kids this weekend. I need to find a place to keep my bass boat on the southside so I can make a late afternoon, early evening run on the river. Less traffic and less light, you could put alot more fish in the boat. Anyone have a garage they want to rent?
