They are getting them in Indiana. If you go to like Chicago I doubt there would be any coho action there but the Laker fishing will be outstanding

Early coho think body baits like Jointed rapalas and every early season coho troller needs a stash of Fire Tiger thin fins. The typically 00 orange dodgers with peanut flys will work as well but temps below 40ish body baits seem to do a little better for me.

I use 40lbs fluorocarbon, 10”-18”, greens.

Heavy fluorocarbon will get the desirable action, short leads will trigger more aggressive fish.

You can catch on just about any combination.

I typically have mine at 15". 40lb leader. 30 works fine but I use 40 for all flys.

One February years ago I launched at Portage.
There were ice burgs floating on the lake and it was a little rough (3 footers).
We trolled the shore line back and forth and limited with healthy 2-3 Lb Coho and a 12 Lb Brown. in about three hours.
The best time to fish is when you can.....

Now is always a great time to start salmon fishing. I use 40lb for my trolling gear.
