Since winter is here it is time for me to organize my fishing gear so I can mess it up the first time out in spring. I was wondering how everyone likes to store spoons. I have been putting them in Styrofoam that is placed in a Tupperware storage container (like a hillbilly version of the box Plano makes for spoons.). It works for now but I was wondering if there is a better way. Also, with glow spoons I was told to keep them out of light when they are not being used and they will last longer. If that is true what do you store them in to keep the spoons out of the light?

I guess I do the low buget as well.
I do not use any special boxes to store my spoons, I use standard clear Plano-type boxes and keep spoons organized by colors. My colors are as follows: Silvers and whites, metallic blues and greens, purples, dark greens and black, orange, yellow and reds and finally glows. I keep all the boxes within a rack system on my boat when fishing and have them labeled which makes them easy to pull when needed.
Now i will say that ALL my spoons have been converted to single hooks so they store easy even when piled on top of one another. It works for me.

I use special mates spoon box, hangs them vertically. I got mine from Bert's whose link is on the top of the lastest posts forum. Was able to combine several spoon boxes into one. http://www.brettsplaceonthebay.com/Item ... GE%20BOXES

Special Mate box holds 70 or 80 spoons. Single or treble hooks without tangling and I can clearly and easily flip thru them. It's great. cdx

Yes I have a Special Mate Box too. Good box, as said. Another great way for storage and use is the Amish Outfitters Pouches- comes in two sizes. Twinfins tipped us off on a post he made a year or two ago. Not only for storage, but you can hang it up in your boat for easy use. Large flap keeps sun from hitting the glows and protects you from the hooks. http://amishoutfitters.com/images/photo ... npouch.jpg

Tom, I have ALOT of spoons, so I use one of the super-magnum tackle bags with Plano-type boxes in it. It is the largest one I could find and is designed to hold 12 of the Plano 3700 boxes. Except I swapped out the 3700 boxes for model 3701 boxes. The 3701 is 1 3/8" high, where the 3700 is 2" high. By doing that, I can get 18 boxes in the bag. I label the boxes by spoon manufacturer. In addition, the bag also has side pockets that will hold smaller boxes. I have 3 of the 3600 series in the end pockets; one has different colored beads for rigging flies and the other two hold J-plugs. Closing the flap keeps the sunlight out. Good Luck with whatever you decide on. Jerry Runnin' Bare

I have 10 BPS versions of the Plano 3700 in 2 different carry bags. They fit right in my tackle locker "L" shaped with a bucket in the corner for my dipsey divers. On the water I have a Cooks Tackle Systen on the inside of one of my rod lockers which holds a bunch of spoons both at the ready and after use so they dry before going back in the plastic boxes. I just need to find a better way to store my flies.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Runnin' Bare that is a very very nice collection of spoons! Popeye - The way I have been storing my flies has been to get a section of 3/4'' clear tubing (found at Home Depot pretty cheap) With the fly rigged with line and hooks attached thread the line thru the tubing and slide the tubing over the fly and then cut a slit for the hooks(if you are using a two hook rig, no need to cut anything for one hook flies). I then wrap the line around the tubing and secure it to the tube with a down rigger rubber band. They fit inside a plano box very well, and are very easy to find and rig when needed. IF this does not make sense I can try to post pictures.
