Anyone going fishing this weekend?
Here is a pic from today at cal park.
Notice the chain. I called chicago harbors and they said the harbor is OPEN to launch and had no idea what the chains were for but told me I would not get towed or introuble for launching. there also is no signs saying we cant launch. BUT DON'T blame me if I got bad info from the chicago harbor people.

HTR.

Maybe the coast guard had something to do with those chains. Check with the station there.Good luck if you get out HTR.

HTR I just spoke to Chicago Harbor rep from Chicago Park District in regards to that rather bazaar chain placement and she said they are not aware of anything like that. I asked her whether she would be interested in having a picture of that chain and she said yes. Let me know if I can use the same picture you posted as a reference point for further discussions and perhaps a complaint on behalf of devoted boaters not being able to use the ramp in the early fishing season. I used the ramp last year from early March till late May exclusively and had no such a problem.

I would just let it be. If there really is a reason I don't want to know about it. The chains have no locks so I think they are just there to hold the dock in place when the ice comes in. In years past there was no floating dock and just piers.

Meet me there sunday morning.

Its almost that time of year to update my Avatar. My avatar is the first fish I catch of the year. As you can see from my avatar the year started out slow but the second fish of the year was a little better so the year ramped up fast. :D

i have fished at cal park since i was 14 or 15 years old in a boat and shore. personally i do not know who or what to believe about launching there after nov 15. the way i intererpet the rules that it is off limits to the spring according to the chicago harbors website linked to the chicago park district. i am not going there till i see on black and white that it is legal. i really enjoy getting out but do not want to risk any problems

Nice job HTR! I wonder how many fish you'll have boated before I wetlines in April?

I'll take a guess at the reason for the chains. To stabilize and help prevent damage to the ramp from ice and winter storms. I believe it's Westrac? that runs and maintains the harbors for the city. They would be the ones that put the chains out and know why.
