Looking to go on charter 6/20. Here is my dilemma. Friends are from south suburbs. Should we fish out of Chicago shorter drive potentially less fish or drive and extra hour plus to north point for better fishing?

Ukie ,Whom ever you choose for your charter, make sure you wear long pants over your short pants, just incase the black flies are biting !
You can always take them off, but if you don't have long pants it could be a long day on the water ! sometimes even repellent doesnt work to keep them off of you !

Give KingSeeker a call. He's always on the fish and on the south side. There are plenty of salmon/trout around Indiana/Illinois waters right now to keep you busy.

Kingseeker is south and will burn the gas to take you where the hot bite is. Win/win.

Thanks for all your help. I sold my “Ecstasy” last fall that I kept in Burnham. We decided to head north to Winthrop Harbor. Will be using the services of Breezy. Will let you know how we do. Spending the night before at the resort at Illinois Beach State Park.

Ukie 1,
I see your going to fish out of Winthrop Harbor .
Did u know that Winthrop Harbor (Northpoint Marina ) , is the only harbor in Illinois you can take a double limit of fish out of ?
You catch your first limit of fish in Illinois, then return to harbor :red , and mark fish with name ,date , and state caught from. Then leave fish in cooler in vehicle . Go back out into Wisconsin 2nd time out, (MUST STAY IN WISCONSIN ENTIRE TIME FISHING, AND HAVE WISCONSIN LICENSE ) then catch limit , and follow same procedure as before with ILinois fish caught, only this time must keep separate from Ilinois fish . I have never done this, but if you had your own boat ,with the way the fish are running now, a good fisherman could get a double limit ! I know of no charters that would do this, but i could see with a pre-arrangement on a first quick limit in IL , this is possible ! :red
Has anybody out there ever done this ?

Let me clarify that double limit harbor . I believe Winthrop Harbor (Northpoint Marina ) , is the only Wisconsin/Illinois border harbor on the west side of Lake Michigan you can do a double limit ! I am not sure about the rules governing Indiana/Illinois border harbors on the east side of Lake Michigan ?

It makes sense but on other hand why do you need so many fish?. Usually one limit of fish is more than enough to have nice diner and plenty of fish for freezer.

I'd like to see where that's printed in the IL or Wi DNR regs. The only way I see this legally possible is if you drive and trailer and launch the boat and land in each state.

A while back on the Mississippi River between Illinois and Iowa you were able to take a double limit of walleye On either Illinois license or Iowa license.

Popeye III, and Mantas

Northpoint Marina harbor mouth is located on the IL. and Wis. borderline ! If you turn right out of harbor your in IL
If you turn left , you are in Wis. Where you park your vehicle, has no bearing on which state you wish to fish. By mutual agreement between states, you can go fish in either state, out of Northpoint Marina, but must respect the laws of each state ! Thats why you
have to only fish in one state at a time, and bag and mark those fish , from which state , and not drop lines in other state , until you bring first limit back to your residence, and not try to fill your limit again from the state you previously got your limit in !
Call the DNR , and get someone there that is familiar with this !

Wet Nets & Good luck to all
Reel Riot <((((<
P,S. Mantas the only reason i might do this, if i was from out of the area, lets say Iowa for instance, and i only had 1 or 2 days to fish, then wouldn't it make sense , as Lake Michigan is 125 miles or more from Iowa. Especially as there are no salmon in Iowa ! :fisch

Never heard of that personally. Not saying you are wrong but I will say “good luck with that!” Whose to say you didn’t just catch double your limit in one state waters and bag and tag two separate limits. I do t think the juice would be worth the squeeze to play that game personally

You have to seal each cooler and label them. I've been told you can keep fishing in one state as long as you have the other state's cooler sealed and labeled properly.

I wouldn't want to try it and run into the wrong DNR agent, and like previously stated, do you really need to go through all that? One limit is fine with me.

Fake news

From the ILDNR Fishing Regs...

"Regardless of where taken, no
fish less than the specified minimum length or more
than the daily harvest shall be possessed while
taking from, or on the waters to which length limits
and/or daily harvest limits apply."

Given the above statement, If you launched at North Point, fished IL waters, and returned to North Point with 5 fish, you have reached your IL limit for the day. You pack them in your cooler and you go out again (out of North Point) and fish WI waters and catch 5 fish. The minutes to cross back over the IL line, you are in violation of your daily creel. DNR Regs do NOT list North Point with any "site specific" rules which override this.

As stated, the ONLY way I see this feasibly legal is to launch and fish in Kenosha, then drive to North Point and lunch and fish there. That way, you are launching and "landing" your fish within the same state and not in violation of either state's regulations. Once the fish are landed, IL does not have a daily possession limit. I believe WI is 10.
